I consider myself a Mexican food snob. I’m absolutely obsessed with the cuisine. I love tacos, tostadas, chilaquiles, tamales, pozole…basically anything that’s not seafood. I’ve always said the best Mexican food I’ve ever had was in Chicago, Cabo San Lucas, and San Diego. I never expected that I would be adding Madrid to that list.
Takos al Pastor is what most of us Americans refer to as a “hole in the wall” restaurant. It’s about the size of a 2 car garage, if you put 12 tables and a kitchen in the middle of it. Despite the rather humble appearance, it is always packed with people. The line gets so long that it literally wraps around the corner.
On average, I’d say waiting to order can take 20-35 minutes.
Why the hell would anyone stand in line that long to eat a few tacos? Well, the short answer is price and quality. Takos al Pastor sells delicious authentic Mexican food with prices as low as €1! With a menu full of flavorful options, you’ll never get tired of eating here. Check out what they have to offer below:
*PASTOR – rotisserie marinated pork topped with tangy pineapples
SUADERO – thinly cut beef with a smooth texture and
COCHINITA PIBIL – slow-roasted pork with spicy, acidic flavors
TINGA D POLLO – shredded chicken marinated in tomato, chili, and onion flavors
NOPAL/QUESO – strips of nopal cactus with chihuaua cheese
*PAPA, CHORIZO, QUESO – flavorful chorizo topped with potatoes and chihuaua cheese
CHAMPINON/QUESO – mushrooms and chihuaua cheese
*ARRACHERA – perfectly seasoned skirt steak topped with cilantro and onions
All of these yummy combinations come in various dishes. From tacos to quesadillas, alambre to tortas! Need something to wash your meal down with? Order a beer, margarita, sangria, or – my favorite – bottle of jarritos! No matter what you order here, you will not be disappointed!
